How-to
How to switch your bra straps in 10 seconds
· 3 min read
No tools, no tailoring, no tutorial. Here's the actual 10-second move for swapping clip-on straps — and why the clip system never fights you.
Every Bijou base bra has four gold-tone rings sewn into it: two at the top of the cups, two at the back of the band. Every Bijou strap ends in a 12mm lobster clasp — the same little spring-gate clasp you'd find on a bracelet. That's the whole mechanism. If you've ever clipped a charm onto a chain, you already know how to do this.
The 10-second move
- Open the clasp with your thumb and forefinger — the little spring lever slides back.
- Hook it through the ring.
- Let go and give the strap a gentle tug to feel it seat.
Repeat for the other three points. Start to finish, it's about ten seconds once it's muscle memory; the first time it might take thirty while you're looking at it. There's no sewing, no sliders to fight, and nothing to break.
Two tips that help
Do the back rings first if you're already wearing the bra — they're the fiddly ones, and it's easier before you've adjusted the front. And when you take a pair off, clip the two clasps together so they live as a set in your drawer instead of as four lonely orphans.
Why it always fits
Because every clasp and every ring is the same size across the entire line, there's no "does this one fit" guessing. A strap you buy two collections from now will clip onto the base bra you own today. That standardization is the boring engineering decision that makes the fun part — collecting straps — actually work. It's also what lets one comfortable base bra carry five completely different looks in a week.
Mini FAQ
Will these clip onto bras I already own? They're designed for the Bijou base bra's ring system, so that's where they're guaranteed to fit. Plenty of regular bras have a small ring or loop where the strap meets the band, and the lobster clasp can often attach there too — but we only promise the fit on a Bijou base.
Do clip-on straps slip or fall off? No — a closed lobster clasp doesn't open on its own; it needs that deliberate thumb-and-finger press. Seat each clasp with a light tug and you're set for the day.
Can I wear the base bra strapless? Yes. Unclip all four points and the base bra works on its own under strapless and off-the-shoulder looks — then clip the straps back on when you want them seen.
How do I adjust the length? Each strap has a slider for height, just like a normal bra strap. Set it once for your torso and it stays put between swaps.
Are the straps comfortable? The clasp sits flat against the ring, so there's no hardware digging in. The straps are the part you show; the comfort still comes from the base bra.
